My inspiration for starting American Flora came largely from being a ballet dancer and teacher. I wanted to create pieces that would provide a comfortable feel and feminine look in the studio, and would also pair well with lifestyle wear. I was particularly focused on finding a sustainable fabric.
Things just started falling together. Started making sense. I guess you could say that all the signs were pointing in the same direction. I happened upon a book with a painting I had studied while spending a semester of college in Florence. Botticelli’s Allegory of Spring had always moved me, but I realized that it also depicted so much of what I wanted for my company. Beautiful Flora, the goddess of flowers is shown scattering her seeds over the world. A symbol of renewal. The fabric I found to use for my collection is called Repreve. It’s made from recycled plastic bottles. Another kind of renewal and positive look to the future.
Flora seemed to roll off my tongue, and was so fitting for the other passion in my life, gardening. After many hours of working on a name for my company, it came to me. American manufacturing was a must in the equation.
There it was. American Flora.
Since we launched in 2011, a lot of growth has taken place. American Flora’s audience has widened considerably. They’re on the city streets, vacationing by the sea, dining out and just having fun! With the introduction of our Floral Wraps, everyone has been able to join in on the excitement and unique look. They’re not constrained by size and all designs are exclusive to our company. There are three artists who currently create spectacular designs.
Our Collection continues to reflect the passion for designing pieces with versatility and femininity in mind. Many looks can be created.
The fabric speaks for itself. Beautiful drape, easy care, sustainable.
